If I get reorganized out of my job...

...maybe I'll go do this. Let's see, I'm silly, I love me some stoopid internets humor, I love the kittehs, and -- bonus! -- I can't spell worth a frak anymore because of too much Middle English. Yup, I think I'm qualified.

Glad to hear your spelling has tanked. For me it was too many 17th C manuscripts. Now I never know what "looks" right. It doesn't help to read both English and American scholarly work, with different spelling conventions.

That's the benefit of working on France - my modern French has never been as solid as I'd like, so the corruption from reading too many early sixteenth-century manuscripts isn't as obvious. And since I don't have to comment on student papers in French, it's only an issue when I'm actually *in* France. But the French are always so delighted when an American makes any effort at all to communicate in French that they are more than willing to overlook it :)

I think reading composition papers did it for me. I'm probably not reading enough Middle English!
